Analysis

The pilot reported, 'Flared too high, when stall horn went off I lowered nose & throttled up. After reflaring, as the mains touched down the aircraft bounced & porpoised.' The pilot reported he gained control of the airplane and continued the flight performing two more touch and go landings. He reported that after he landed and secured the airplane he noticed damage to the propeller. Post accident inspection of the airplane revealed the firewall was also damaged.

Factual Information

On July 23, 1999, at 2315 central daylight time, a Cessna 182R, N9799E, was substantially damaged while landing on runway 17 (9,546' x 150') at the Hector International Airport, Fargo, North Dakota. The private pilot was not injured. The personal flight was being operated under 14 CFR Part 91. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan was filed. The local flight originated approximately 10 minutes prior to the accident. The pilot reported, "Flared too high, when stall horn went off I lowered nose & throttled up. Probable Cause and Findings

the pilot misjudged the landing flare which resulted in the airplane porpoising during the landing.
