Analysis

The pilot inadvertently lowered the landing gear of the amphibian airplane while on approach for a water landing. The airplane touched down, and nosed over.

Factual Information

On June 8, 2000, at 1045 Eastern Daylight Time, an amphibian Republic RC3, N60CB, was substantially damage during a water landing on Lake Pleasant, Speculator, New York. The certificated private pilot was not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the personal flight that originated from Monticello, New York. No flight plan was filed, and the flight was conducted under 14 CFR Part 91. According to the pilot, he inadvertently lowered the landing gear while on approach for a water landing. The airplane touched down, and nosed over.
