Analysis

DURING A LANDING, THE PLT ENCOUNTERED A PORPOISE WHICH INCREASED IN SEVERITY. HE ADDED FULL POWER, RAISED THE NOSE & INITIATED A GO-AROUND, DURING WHICH, THE STALL WARNING HORN SOUNDED. THE PLT REPORTED THAT HE LEFT THE CARBURETOR HEAT ON & LEFT THE FLAPS IN A 2/3 EXTENEDED POSTION. AS HE CONTINUED THE GO-AROUND, HE MANUEVERED THE ACFT TO AVOID HITTING A POLE. IMMEDIATELY THEREAFTER, THE LEFT WING TIP STRUCK SNOW COVERED GROUND & THE ACFT CARTWHEELED TO A STOP. THE ELEVATION OF THE ARPT WAS 6202 FT. THE PLT HAD RECENTLY RECEIVED HIS PRIVATE PLT CERTIFICATE & HAD JUST CHECKED OUT IN THIS MAKE & MODEL OF ACFT.
