Analysis

This was the student pilot's second solo flight and her instructor observed the flight. The first takeoff and landing were without incident. During the second landing approach, she flared prematurely and "pushed the nose down to correct." She flared again but was too late and the airplane landed hard and bounced. The student pushed the nose down and the airplane struck the runway, collapsing the nose gear. Postaccident inspection revealed that the firewall was buckled, some engine mounts were broken, and the right wing skin was wrinkled.

Factual Information

On February 14, 2009, at 1353 central standard time, a Cessna 152, N6300Q, registered to and operated by Spartan Aviation Industries, Inc., Tulsa, Oklahoma, and piloted by a student pilot, sustained substantial damage when it impacted the runway during landing at Richard Lloyd Jones, Jr./Riverside Airport (RVS), Tulsa, Oklahoma. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. The instructional flight was being conducted under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 without a flight plan. The student pilot on board the airplane was not injured. The local flight originated at an undetermined time. According to the pilot's accident report, this was her second solo flight, and he instructor observed the flight.
