Factual Information

On July 27, 2009, about 1000 eastern daylight time, a Schweizer 269C helicopter, N9421G, received substantial damage when it was landed hard at the North Palm Beach County General Aviation Airport (F45), West Palm Beach, Florida. The private pilot and certificated flight instructor (CFI) were not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan was filed for the local instructional flight. The helicopter was registered to North Bay Enterprises, Inc., and operated by Ocean Helicopters under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. The accident was not reported to the National Transportation Safety Board until December 2, 2009. Witnesses stated that on the day of the accident they observed the helicopter landing and then impact the ground “very very hard.” According to the helicopter’s owner, damage consisted of damage to the skids and buckling of the tail boom attach bracket.
