Factual Information

On June 22, 2010, about 1345 universal time, a Cessna TU-206F, HC-BYA, registered to and operated by Servicio Aero Quichua De Pasta, as a cargo flight, initiated a descent in the vicinity of Pavacachi, Ecuador. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and a visual flight rules flight plan was filed. A noise was heard coming from the engine and the engine rpm decreased from 2,350 rpm to 1,000 rpm. The pilot tried to make an emergency landing at the Pavachi Airport, but the airplane collided with trees short of the runway. The airplane received substantial damage. The pilot received serious injuries. The flight originated from Rio Amazonaas Airport, Shell, Ecuador, at 1205, and was en-route to a dirt landing strip in the vicinity of Pista Loorocachi, Ecuador.
