Factual Information

On January 27, 2011, at 1410 universal coordinated time, a Cessna 172N, Italian registration I-AMCO, was substantially damaged when it impacted terrain during cruise flight near Isola Fossara, Perugia, Italy. The certificated private pilot was fatally injured. Instrument meteorological conditions prevailed for the flight that departed from Aeroporto di Ancona Falconara (LIPY), Ancona, Italy, and was destined for Foligno Airport (LIAF), Umbria, Italy. This accident investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Agenzia Nazionale per la Sicurezza del Volo (ANSV) of Italy.
