Factual Information

The pilot of the tailwheel equipped airplane reported that during the landing roll the airplane veered sharply to the left, and the left wing impacted the runway. The pilot further reported that the airplane continued to turn to the left off the runway onto loose soil and nosed over. The airplane sustained substantial damage to right lift struts. According to the pilot, there were no preimpact mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airframe or engine that would have precluded normal operation.

Probable Cause and Findings

The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll, which resulted in a runway excursion and a nose over.
