Factual Information

The pilot of the tailwheel equipped airplane reported that after landing on a 1,900-foot grass strip she determined she would not be able to stop prior to the end of the airstrip. The pilot reported that during the aborted landing she added full power, but the airplane settled into a bean field and subsequently nosed over. The airplane sustained substantial damage to the firewall, fuselage, and empennage. The pilot reported that there were no preimpact mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airframe or engine that would have precluded normal operation.

Probable Cause and Findings

The pilot's delayed action to perform an aborted landing, which resulted in a nose over and substantial damage to the firewall, fuselage, and empennage.
