Mooney Aircraft Corporation M 20K

Factual Information

On September 12, 2017, about 1700 Universal Coordinated Time, a Mooney M20K, German registration D-EPPW, impacted terrain approximately near the mountain restaurant Gumen, Braunwald, Switzerland, under unknown circumstances. The pilot and one passenger were fatally injured. The Swiss Transportation Safety Board (STSB) is investigating the accident. As the state of manufacture of the airplane and engine, the NTSB has designated a US accredited representative to assist the STSB in its investigation. All inquiries concerning this accident should be directed to the STSB: Florian Reitz florian.reitz@sust.admin.ch On May 5, 2017, at 0755 coordinated universal time, a Cessna T182T, N6296R, and a Cessna 172, HBCKG, were involved in a near midair collision in Geneva, Switzerland. The near midair occurred as both airplanes were en route at an altitude of about 8,000 feet. N6296R was operating under instrument flight rules and HBCKG was operating under visual flight rules at the time. There were no injuries to the occupants of either airplane. Neither airplane was damaged. The accident investigation is under the jurisdiction and control of the Swiss government.
