Analysis

The pilot reported that, during the landing roll, the airplane encountered wind, exited the runway to the left, and the wing struck a runway light. The right wing sustained substantial damage. The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation. The automated weather observation station located about 7 nautical miles east-northeast of the airport reported that, about 5 minutes before the accident, the wind was from 060° at 7 knots. The airplane landed on runway 13.

Factual Information

The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation. A review of recorded data from the automated weather observation station located about 7 nautical miles east-northeast, about 5 minutes before the accident, the wind was from 060° at 7 knots. The airplane landed on runway 13.

Probable Cause and Findings

The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll in crosswind conditions.
