Analysis

The pilot reported that, during the landing for a touch-and-go, the airplane touched down with engine power at idle right of runway centerline and began to veer to the right. The pilot attempted to correct with left rudder control and then thought to apply power for a go-around. The pilot subsequently rejected the go-around and applied hard braking as the airplane departed the right side of the runway. The left wing sustained substantial damage. The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane which would have precluded normal operation.

Probable Cause and Findings

The pilot’s failure to maintain directional control during landing which, resulted in a runway excursion.
